Back, by popular demand

Things have been busy lately. Some of it’s from work but a lot of it has just been social life type stuff.

I’m trying to dig myself out of a hole at work so that I can go on vacation next week. I’m going to take of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and head out to Ohio. John and I are going camping up on one of the Erie Islands. It’s going to be wicked hard trying to get everything done before I leave. I think I’ll manage.

I passed another insurance exam last week. ARM-55 Risk Control for those keeping score at home. I stopped doing them for a little while but I need to get back into them. I hardly studied for this last one and still passed, which was a complete shock to me. I think it annoyed a few of my co-workers too. Apparently some people study for months for these things. My question is why? Why would you need to study months for a multiple choice exam? You need to get a 70% or higher to pass. If a monkey took the test, it would likely get on or near a 25%. That means you just have to know enough material to get you that extra 45%.

Speaking of which, I’ve noticed that people always make things out to be way easier or harder than they actually are. I think the above demonstrates the latter. Other times it seems like people are trying to impress you and claim that something took them little to no effort to do something that you know would be difficult for you and any normal person. I notice this type of thing with my friends all the time. It’s sort of funny because it’s pure posturing. It’s good to recognize it because then you aren’t overcome with feelings of laziness or ineptitude.

I completely relate to what you are talking about (people either over-simplifying or overcomplicating), however, for me, it definitely takes me 4 solid weeks of studying to pass a CPCU. Hopefully when you take them you will need less time!
